Winter sowing part II

Winter Sowing is the easiest way to be prepared for the spring.  Over the years I've notice the weather has gotten more unpredictable.  However, it is possible to adapt your seeds to the environment.  It's does not matter whether your climate will experience wind, sleet or hail the seeds will emerge in perfect time regardless of the situation.

The best thing about winter sowing is that it is easy, and does not require a lot of attention. Here are a few basic steps to get started.

  1. Cut a one gallon plastic jug in half, do not remove the cap.
  2. Ensure you make holes in the bottom of the jug for drainage
  3. Fill the jug 1/4 with your favorite compost or soil medium
  4. Plant your seeds in the soil
  5. Water the until moist
  6. Put the second half of the jug on top and seal close with tape.
  7. Leave the jugs outdoors where it can be exposed to sunlight (Throughout Winter)
  8. When spring arrives periodically remove the cap to see if the seedlings have emerged.
  9. When the seedlings have four true leaves feel free to transplant however you wish.
You can winter sow just about any seeds you would like, However I think winter sowing is a great way to start perennial flowers.  If you are looking for some interesting GMO free rare heirlooms check out https://www.etsy.com/shop/BrandysBotanyBay?ref=l2-shop-info-name

Cruising

The greatest thing about spring is that we can finally enjoy the weather. I am a tropical person, so having sun is a necessity. One of my childhood joys was riding a bike, I forgot how peaceful a good bike ride could be until I was stuck without a car and had no other choice. Riding to work soothed my nerves so much that I preferred the bike oppose to a taxi rides or bus rides. Independence is a necessity, and riding a bike at 34 doesn't have to be a embarrassment. I checked out etsy and found so many interesting one of a kind bags and bike accessories that I thought I made bike riding sexy. Riding a bike kept me fit and showed of my environmental earthy side. I Seriously can't wait to take a bike ride through the nature preserve with my family. But, first I need to teach my five year old to ride a bike. He's been on a radio flyer tricycle for quite some time.
